Description: December, 2009 visit to the Rochester, NY PAL Model Railroad Heaven – The Edgerton Model Train Room. This is the Spring layout – the second to the left as you enter the room from the “Observation” platform. The backdrop has been preserved, but the layout was completely revamped about 25 years ago with GarGraves trackage donated by GarGraves Trackage Corporation, a Rochester based company since the 1940’s(Factory & Showroom now in Alton/North Rose, NY – Wayne County). The tracks & trains coming from the left are coming from the Winter diorama. The Winter scene was originally all on a level higher than the other 3 scenes, and while that level is all still there, loops of track from both Fall & Spring make their way through the lower level of Winter now and there is a connector track to Spring’s new(~25 years ago) upper level. These Layouts were prominently profiled in the Lionel / Bantam books of the 1950’s in the chapter titled “Model Railroading As A Civil Project”, and the story of their construction by the Police Athletic League is detailed in those pages. Lionel was the supplier of the all of the train equipment at that time. All four layouts, Summer, Fall, Winter, & Spring, represent landscapes in/around the Rochester area. The original backdrops have all been preserved and worked in to the layout updates.

This is the Summer layout – first on the left as you enter the room from the “Observation” platform. While many of the scenic elements have been preserved from initial 1950 construction, the track plan has been updated into a multi-level over-under arrangement replacing what was once a more open yard area. The track is now K-Line Shadow Rail O Gauge with the new style low-profile Super Snap switches/machines. Maury Klein of K-Line Electric Trains donated track and switches for the first major overhaul of the Summer & Winter layouts about 25 years ago. This newer K-Line trackage is reportedly a gift from Lionel when they acquired K-Line’s inventory at the time Kader took over and licensed K-Line to Lionel. The Polar Express is traversing the scene in this video. Description: This model train exhibition was held at Polch/Germany on 7 November 2009. Besides some smaller German layouts it offered a very interesting Swiss layout from the Belgian model train club “Hoeseltse treinclub”.

Description: Before I got heavy into RC planes….I used to have a lot of Lionel stuff. I sold all of it so I could dedicate my hobby time to planes, helis and autogyros. It got to the point of upon finishing the layout, I got bored with it. To keep my interest…I would keep buying different engines and stuff. It just got to be too much $$$ and not enough interst. The videos are pretty old….but I still enjoy watching them. I have more footage that I took on the camcorder also but never converted to digital. I may have to do that soon. Enjoy….
